Good Morning Sportsfans and Welcome to this Weeks edition of the Hockey News v41

Was that some kind of fun or what! Loving this action baby! Not sure if it was coming back from behind and catching up…again, or was it seeing the Hammer step up and shut out all three shooters, or was it looking at Bladenet yesterday and seeing your Men in Black in first place, or was it seeing Big Jack T slam into the glass like he was the Golden Boy Sid the Kid scoring that goal for Canada and closing off the perfect Olympics, or seeing the play stop and the entire arena cheer for Canada, pretty emotional and sooo cool!!, I will always remember sharing that moment with the Men in Black like I remember where I was when we lost my idol John Lennon. All the above or pick any of them and man what a great experience!!

As you know I don’t like to single kids out but a kind of funny thing happened. As we were loading stuff into the car the email from Shooter came in, Emmett and Keenan’s skates were taken in for sharpening and they closed early so were both without skates for playoff game 1. As we do, we improvise and put a plan in place, Keenen wore his little brothers and Emmett wore my older boys! Did we see an impact? Only in a positive way, wow! Send Telly in and I wouldn’t want to be the guy who made that call! And Gregg sinking 4 goals including the clincher in the shootout! Superman to close the deal and we will never forget that Keener “whip” to start the scoring, that smile as you returned to the bench is the trophy I will remember this year! That’s the stuff, the emotion, ,the passion, the journey, the stuff championships are made of!

We said we can beat any team in this league and we have proven it. We may play these teams 5 teams and we may win 1, this is the game we want!! Herb Brooks said it in 1980 and he proved its all about timing and “the want”, doesn’t always take the best team, it takes the right team!

In the room the feeling after the game made time stand still, the moment, the attitude, the reward, we liked it and we want it again, and it is up to us, no one else. We have learned how to deal with the reffing, we have learned to keep our mouths shut (you guys speak on our behalf haha) and we have learned how to score a few goals, we have adjusted to the elements of this season and I have hopes we are about to see the results!!

I am very proud of this team and there is so much more. Watching Team Canada in that final game reminded me that usually the team that wants it more takes it. I think we have been through so much we certainly do want it more, like I said earlier its all about the journey and the process and we have worked harder and been through more than any other team in this league, its our turn and the MiB do want it. Please get this message to the boys over the Eggo’s and Corn Pops! We can do this if we stick to our plan and keep working on and off the ice. Lots off amazing memories around the corner, no place I would rather be! Tell gramma and grampa in Wawa about the Men in Black and please invite them out to a game, we need you in the stands behind the team, I like banners noisemakers and signs. Some folks say the kids are to old, I don’t care! we did this with my super dudes cool midgets and these grade 12 teenagers hugged like preschoolers as they took the championship, no one is too cool to celebrate, trust me!!

Thanks for everything folks, we have really enjoyed working with you and your kids!

Good Morning Sportfans and Welcome to this Weeks edition of the Hockey News! V40.

Funny had so many responses from last weeks news, seems it was missing the middle 7 paragraphs haha!! Will try to get back into form this morning with an inspirational message!

I just love this team and had so much fun, not only last night but all season long. These guys not once made a comment on loosing so many games, didn’t hear in the dressing room before of after a game, and negativity did not take away from the fun!

We have coached teams that have won 1 game all year and gone to Minor Hockey day, and we have coached teams that have gone undefeated and won it all! In both cases our goals were the same and we walked away with a smile proud of what we had accomplished. Each of your kids have been playing for quite some time and I hope that they will take a lesson away from this season. It really was the season of the bounce, most games we played we really did play well and although the score didn’t show it I thought we did a lot of stuff right. We hit a lot of posts and the bounces and calls just didn’t seem to go our way, we learned to keep our aggression to ourselves and channel into positive directions. I learned we have a very passionate parent crew that really do care about this team and their kids!

I have always known that good kids make good coaches and if you win folks overlook stuff, when you consistently loose folks look to point the blame, I get it, its life and its part of sports, in the pro’s folks get fired because the goal is to win. We work to develop and I am pleased to say not only do I have no regrets and would not have changed a thing. I have not heard anyone, parents kids or coaches making any negative comments about anything or anyone on this team.

I am proud of our season and when I walk into the rink I look forward to seeing the parents, kids and opponents! Its what we do and we will continue, this crew is a proud bunch and I really believe that we are playing great hockey and am proud of the machine we have built. I watched Wayne Gretzky talk about team Canada and how the team spirits are still high, he said that’s how we are all trained as kids in Canada, wow… we are that process! no regrets!

Moving forward! Its at this stage when I say, “we gave a lot of those teams the season, I want the playoffs baby”. There isn’t a team out there we can not beat and we will do it one game at a time! We do not change our goals but now we are giving it absolutely everything we have every time we hit the ice, nothing is left to chance, there are no second chances. Please pass the message on as you pass the mashed potatoes across the dinner table;  I will be looking for more, that little extra push or effort of stretch! Its what we need to get us to Minor Hockey day and there is no reason we cant do it, truth is we are already doing it but I want more!

Thanks folks, been a weird morning, I was stopped at a light turning onto Fairview at 6:45 only to see a Eastbound car send a pedestrian into the air and crash on to the ground right beside my car! I called 911 and stayed to file the report with the Police. Message here is man we all take so much for granted, both parties involved certainly have other issues now to deal with, my biggest thing to think about this week is  this hockey team, in comparison man it’s a good life and I appreciate how fortunate we are to be where we are!

I am trying to get ice but the Pond, the Wave, the Hanger and BLOMHA are dry.

Thanks for all the fun, remember our goals and lets plan to have some fun in the playoffs!!

Hey Gang, Welcome to this Weeks edition of the Hockey News, v37!

How do you like us know? What a couple great games, 3 guys in the box and we still fight back and score shorthanded! Wow what heart! We had 9 skaters last night! After the game the guys were really down in the dressing room and I said we just tied the first place team, a month ago we would be celebrating!. These guys know it, you guys know it and the other coach knows it, we were quite clearly the team that wanted it more last night and it took those 10 penalties to keep this game even!

I am not complaining about our penalties as we did deserve a few and are still learning and I am fine with that. I am not complaining on how 1 ref called Keenen and the other ref called Jack and they asked me which one I wanted to be in the box, I am not complaining that Robert was behind the play and went into the box for something he had nothing to do with, or the ref would make a call and come over to the bench to see who deserved it, you get my point…the only thing that drives us nuts is when the first place team gets away with something and then a second later they call us. Our guys are passionate and we certainly care, and this is why we are always fighting so hard, we are tying to get the most out of each athlete every time and we will continue to, and we will never give up. You could tell the minute they dropped the puck we wanted that one!

The head coaches have collectively complained about the reffing this year, we have 16 penalties in the last 2 games and the other teams have 5 combined, makes me think. I will fight my battles in a board room the right way with science and will have the kids continue to play with heart.

I know you folks are upset and I would be interested in hearing your thoughts, I can get them to the league if you like. I know of 2 families that are planning on sending a well thought out politically correct letter to the league, and I have no plans of stopping it, I am the sponsor and paid like everyone else but will channel my energy into the 13 pairs eyes that look up for leadership, life lessons, advice and support! (remember fun and getting better are all I am after)!

End of the day, long story short we are playing so well and having so much fun, I could not be prouder. Folks are approaching me with comments  re what we are accomplishing, its kind of cool hearing. Again we play so hot against the hot teams and the weaker guys seem to sneak past us. We are getting better by the week and l think our take-way should be lets get even better, lets set our goals a tad higher because we know we can reach them, the journey is as much fun as the destination!

We have a full ice practice on Saturday so I will hold off on grabbing ice this week, but park it up there I want to keep us busy!!

Also kudos to our timekeeper for keeping his brothers in order in the box!! Great job Ethan thanks! you did an amazing job for us last night! (I hope your mom wasn’t scaring you with her well crafted cheering, glad she’s on our team), goes without saying the guys on the doors (you too Shooter) are the brains behind this infrastructure, love you guys!

Great game kids, happy to see us getting the results we deserved, amazing effort by all the dudes and grabbing a much deserved win, Fun to see my friends Chris Pellegrino and Andy Beach in the stripes last night, nice seeing well reffed game for a change. I will say the Hammer fielded 23 shots and only one got by, kudos over the fruit loops this morning pal! We pounded them with 27!

Thanks for the fund gathering Cheers and thanks for the support gang, we have a full team for Waynes World, excellent!. We are registered and I picked up the permit on Saturday. Cheers is looking into lodgings restaurants etc, will leave the funs stulff up to her, this is where she shines baby!!

Hey Gang, Welcome to this weeks version of the Hockey News!!

What a fine weekend, first off thanks to those who participated on the Friday night at Club 54, was kind of thinking it would be fun to get everyone out for a parent night out but other than Jack only folks there were the coaches! Too bad, I tried, we had a great time!! I would like to also mention that the Tryburski clan once again led the fundraising campaign bringing in $130 for the Men in Black, outstanding effort guys, your table was having some fun and took the pressure off of us coaches who I thought for sure were going to get picked on. Jack I am going to look up your CIBC account and maybe clear your visa or mortgage in thanks! (just kidding)!

My personal goal was to bring in $100 per family as we are chewing though the funds. We raised $420 (I paid the club $50 so our take home was $370).

I will spend carefully going forward, don’t think we have enough to continue the weekly full ice so stay tuned. I need some cash for year end festivities as well and am starting to place orders and plan stuff.

Re the game,. I just love the way these guys are playing, I see heart and intensity out there, these guys are working their butts off, we started the game with 3 spares on the bench and played the remainder with 9 skaters. I cant ask for any more gang, great job coaches for keeping it together!

I don’t judge the game by the score and am happy with the team! This is the group I plan a taking to the playoffs, (if we could get our skates sharpened perhaps for the next session we way stay standing a tad longer haha!! (Browns Ice Box on Mainway best place in town, ask for Drummond and tell him I sent you (he is a pal!)

One thing I will mention is after the club 54 comedy show there was a Cougar dance and it got kind of out of hand and I just heard that someone filmed it and dropped it on the web, kind of embarrassing! Check it out: Funny I don’t remember this!

Tonight is our last full icer Monday night, thanks for participating gang, please advise if you cant make it. These Monday night sessions have been a lot of fun, thanks for getting the dudes out!

Good Morning Sports Fans and Welcome to this weeks version of the Hockey News v 33.

First off thanks again to Lee and Maria for hosting the MiB Tuesday night, we had 8 kids out and a few parents hanging out in the garage! Was a great nite and a great memory for the boys, they were on the ice for about 2 hours and we had to pull the plug for homework or they would have stayed a few more. Happy Birthday Maria was nice sharing your 30th with you and Lee!

We have an opportunity of hitting the Baker Street Pond again on the 30th so park it up there.

I have contacted the league and they will not allow us to reschedule the Superbowl game to one of our Monday sessions, maybe both teams forfeit and play each other in an exhibition game, stay tuned, who can not attend this game Feb 7 at 8:00, I am aware of Billy so far. The coaches have an offsite team building exercise so we are asking Jack Tryburski to take the bench with the moms running the doors, sound good? We will be at QBs, please send us emails with the status and we will check at half time, um…. I mean on our break!

I am working on a theory session at the BLOMHA office for Saturday Jan 23, I have approached the girls in the office and will advise on the availability, will be an hour followed by pizza, if I can grab some ice I will but this can be our backup plan.

I am working on 2 tournament options and we are registered but not paid for both, I have asked Cheers to start collecting. Rosedale is the one we discussed March 15-19 during the day and Aurora is the first weekend of the break so no vacation /time off required. One game Friday night and 2 on Saturday, Championship Sunday, At least one dude can then play that could otherwise not, and I want a full team, but a bit further drive (a little over an hour). I will call this the Wayne’s World Tourney if we do it (and I kind of want to just for that reason). Please share your thoughts as I want to firm up right away! I am hearing folks favoring the Wayne’s World event as it saves on vacation time but we will need to be in Aurora for the Friday night game in good time.

We are on 8:30 – 10:00 tonight as well as next Monday, please advise if you cant make it, I am aware of Billy and Jack.

We should settle up on all the funds for the Club 54 night which is this Friday, please bring tonight if you can or let me know and we can firm up Friday night if that works! (If tonight please bring in a sealed envelope with your name on it and the amount of cash written on the envelope).

Re the weekends games too bad we didn’t get the wins but I think we are a better team than both and we certainly played better that both those teams, I was happy with our systems and the way we played! I stick to my statement and never let the score get in the way, we certainly have come a long way and will continue to get better, These games are just so much fun!! Please be proud of all we have done and not bitter or upset because we are not getting the wins that we deserve, you kids make me proud and I am happy to part of the fun!

Hey Gang, we are still on for tonight, I think about half the team is in for some old fashioned fun on the Baker Street Pond!

The goal is to arrive at 5:30 where the Pattersons have some pizza planned for the dudes (they refused to take team money)… you guys are amazing, love your refreshing attitude!

The dudes can head out to the pond after that, I will bring a bucket of pucks and they can explore!

This is a non sanctioned event and the BLOMHA insurance does not apply, think of it like a bunch of kids playing road hockey somewhere! Up to you on if they are to wear full gear, if it was just our team I would enforce but as it’s a public pond I am thinking the kids wont want to wear the MiB colors but up to you folks!!

A special thanks again to our Superheros (Maria and Lee) for thinking about the MiB and squeezing more fun into this amazing season!!

I have hopes it’s a hit and we can maybe do it again if we behave???

See Ya tonight gang!! Dress warm for those planning to stick around by the burning trashcan!!

Subject: The Baker Street Pond and the March Break Tourney if we are interested and have enough kids.

Hey Gang, quick update on March Break idea! I have spoken with several who have shared an interest in doing something over the March Break. I am loving the attitude and willingness to do stuff with this group, its refreshing because as you know we like to do stuff and have some fun pushing the boundaries.

We are penciled into the Rosedale Tourney (Hamilton). Nice and close so no overnight required, we can setup a bash somewhere and have some “Macguyver snacks” (pepper and cherries). 3 game round robin and then playoffs. This one is $750 so we would divide by the number of kids attending, Cost will be 750/13 = 60ish, If we have 10 kids 75 each.  I of course have hopes that we will have a full turnout but understand it may be tuff as the games are during the day, I just sent in my request for the week off so can help out a bit with transportation. Let me know your thoughts and we can go from there, we will do whatever it takes to get the kids on ice! 2 Months to plan so I have hopes we can make it work.

I will not add players to my roster as we would not be the MiB if we did, Please advise on your availability and interest.

Re Wednesday and the Baker Street Pond…

Good to go from:

Robert, Chris, Zach, Stelios

Cant pull it offs from

Jack, Adam, Hayden

Not sure from:

Emmett, Keenen, Gregg

Waiting to hear from:

Liam, Malcolm

Please let me know if you are cool with the tourney folks as like to firm up, pay and focus on the task at hand.

Thanks again and see ya!

Good Morning Sportsfans and Welcome to this Weeks edition of the Hockey News v30

I hope you enjoyed your Sunday without hockey, I missed you guys! But did enjoy just chilling at home and getting caught up with Coach Kim’s to-do list!

What you think of your MiB huh? I cant tell you how proud I am, and so happy for them. Working so hard and finally seeing the rewards. A total team effort but I must send a huge high 5 over to Ramblin Man (Gregg) for the Hat trick and for Emmett for giving us everything he has shift after shift, if flows through the entire team and that was a game I didn’t see anything to take away (well one minor thing but not a huge deal and we talked about it)! We hit them with 37 shots and they hit us with 11, the D played it perfectly, nice job all around boys!

A special thanks to my pal Wall-E for coming out and helping us, a great dude that was with me last year and joined us for both Gatorade Cups, was a treat working with you again Wall-E! Not looking forward to playing your team again, We will score all our goals in the half you are not playing!

Funny we are undefeated in 2010, go figure we have won 4 games this season and 2 of them have been our last 2 games and against very strong teams! In our last 5 we have only lost 1, I am digging this action, the kids have been so cool though the ups and downs, a true test of character and we are certainly stronger because of the first half of the season, the teams that are naturally winning without the effort are starting to lose and the teams that are working are starting to win! Funny how that works!

Be proud of your MiB, that game was just a bunch of fun and a great feeling that we want more and more!!

We are not on tonight as the ice had been booked but we have the following 2 Monday 8:30 sessions.

We have a great opportunity to join Superman at the Baker Street Pond this Wednesday starting at 5:30 for Pizza (team fund can kick in here) and then head across the street to the outdoor pond! Please let us know your thoughts! An amazing opportunity for some outdoor fun thanks to the Patterson’s! Thanks guys!! The Baker Street Pond is at Upper Middle and Baker Street east of Appleby West of Burloak, Superman’s digs are 2109 Baker Street (Please Reply with a yea baby! So we can plan the food)

Good Morning Sportsfans and Welcome to this weeks edition of the Hockey News v29.

Back to the grind, a fun bunch of hockey over the weekend, hey the MiB are undefeated in 2010, I like the sound of that baby!! Last 2 games were smothered in passion and heart, nice to see some really bad officiating and this time not so much pointed at us! First time I have ever had a pair of double minors in the box and 5 skaters on the ice, that guy to the right of the penalty box was making me smile, he was so loud and funny! I also got a kick out of the ref waving off the icing and telling their coach it was because they had an extra skater, we were not shorthanded as they had pulled their goalie, oh well I told the kids it goes both ways and its our turn!

The kids had a bit of a bounce in their step as we wanted to be the team that handed the first place team their first loss. Wow taking down the top (undefeated) team in style, and tying the 4th place team the day before nice work Black!

We are on tonight for Nelson at 8:30. Please let me know how we are making out on the Club 54 sales, our team money is running a bit low so we need to top it up. I have hopes that each family can bring in 10 ticket sales but just do what you can with thanks,

What are your thoughts on the March Break Tourney? We can do local or another away, or nothing, I like to do stuff so wish to plan something but of course need your support. Let me know your thoughts, planning is everything and if we leave it too late no hockey!

Great fun in London folks, I especially enjoyed the drive home, yikes that stretch between London and Woodstock was kind of nasty! Lots of great hockey and great completion this weekend for sure, what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger, we had some fun and I think we are a better team as a result. Was so great having the full team out, thanks for the participation!, the kids certainly had some fun and some great team bonding and memories, I think some of the big kids had some fun as well, some more than others hehe!! Hope you feel better pal!!

Enjoy the families and some time off to charge the batteries as we are back in action this weekend and there’s lots of Hockey left to play baby!!!

Nice short email huh!!

Happy New Year!

Good Morning Sportsfans and Welcome to another edition of the Hockey News Ho Ho Ho Edition!

A proud coach I must say! What a spectacular weekend! Christmas in the kitchen was a huge success and is wrapped up for another year!! Thanks for sharing the last Saturday of the season with the MiB! I think the parents the kids, the coaches all had a great time, was so nice chatting with you folks in a non hockey environment! I hope you enjoyed the video, I will have a year end version that wont be shakey no worries, I wanted something to recap all the fun and show all the hard work these guys are doing, that video says it all for me, we are an amazing hockey team and those bounces are going to go our way, we wont give up!

Re Sunday nights game, my comment in the room to those happy faces was just man that was some kind of fun!!! And to be rewarded with a tie against that team wow, they are one of the stronger teams and we certainly kept up with them and showed what we could do, from scoring on a penalty kill to winning the battles in the corners and creating scoring opportunities, to a penalty shot, and to be curfewed with 2 minutes remaining, I bet they were glad to get out of it with a tie haha! Another couple mins and I think we would have come out on top, I also saw your team defending their goalie with passion, and a match penalty that didn’t hurt the team! Sunday nights game was an amazing way for us to finish off the first half of the season and I am so proud, there was a buzz in the building, I could feel it as we walked off the ice and met up with the parent crews smiling faces, a couple thumbs up and pats on the beck, your dudes did the job and as always never gave up, this time they were rewarded, a great feeling and we want more of it! Nice Job MiB!

Couple quick housekeeping items, let me know if you need a map to the rink in London, our first 3 games are at the main rink and we should meet there first, then hit the hotel to check in then lunch (Cheers is getting us all together) then back to the rink! Cheers handed out the pictures and the new schedule, I have posted it on the web.

I have had a few requests asking for hats, I paid $12. each plus tax so if interested in one for yourself let me know your thoughts and we could hook you up, would be kind of cool seeing all the parents with those stylin lids for the second half of the season!

A recap on our financials. I will have a closing statement for you at the end of the year, no team money went into the video or any of the coaches Christmas gifts, Team money was used for the Coaches hats as well as the kids hats, I brought in $500 at the beginning of the year and consider that cash for the hats, we have a bit over $400 in the MiB account at this point. I do hope to continue with the extra ice sessions and will as long as the funds and interest is there, we are paying 140 per session so running a bit lean, I have hopes that the Club 54 event (Jan22) will help there as well.

Please share your thoughts your comments or advice, I love feedback and am great at adjusting based on the circumstances or environment, your coaches are all in sync on this as we are all so lucky to be a part of this team, lets enjoy the rest of the season!

Thanks for everything folks. I will close the books for the year and focus on Christmas stuff, there isn’t a day that goes by that Kim and I are not thinking about this hockey team (well me anyways and Kim always listens)!

Been an amazing ride so far but we still have a long long way to go and half the fun is getting there!

Happy Holidays folks, enjoy your families and the season!! (no snowboarding accidents please)!

See Ya

Good Morning Sportsfans and welcome to another edition of the Hockey news v22

What a great weekend, lights up, tree in and perhaps a gift or 2 under it!

What a team we have here folks, I liked last nights game more over Saturdays to be honest, we seem to play better against the better teams, we were really pumped up for Saturdays game. A bounce either way and it would have been a different score for sure! Great effort all around.

We are moving some kids around, and adhering to their requests, we moved Superman up for a game and Swinger back, yesterday we moved Keener into a D spot which we thought worked out great. We will continue to adjust and see what works, we always talk with the kids. I never want to set anyone up without the tools and in a position to fail, if it doesn’t work we will adjust, if it works and the dude hates it we will adjust, all about balance but fun has to the first thing! We chat with the kids to make sure so I have hopes all are enjoying the season so far!!

It sure is tuff to work the room when we are loosing but man these kids are the best, we always find something positive to pull out and push out front.

I told the kids in the room a recalled a story I heard of a dad working on his car with his son, the car fell of the jack and pinned his sons legs under the car. The dad without thinking did what any of us would do, grabbed the car and lifted it high enuff that his struggling son cold pull himself free!

If asked could the dad do it in normal situations of course not, the dad now knows he found a way to do it and knows he has that strength for the next time. This is what we are seeking. It doesn’t always take the best kids to win a game or a championship, it takes the right kids. We are still working and I have hopes that we can unlock that power because when we do it will be the sweetest thing we have seen all season and we will want it more and more, every time we hit the ice. I could go and on but you know me I Don’t like long sappy emails!!! You get the message, your coaches and kids will never give up to the last very last game. We will become way stronger than any team that’s just going out and winning without putting the effort in, the bounces will come our way and your kids will be rewarded for their efforts!!

We are on tonight at Nelson at 8:30. The goal last night was to allow less that 27 shots on the Hammer, as we received  21 shots we did our job so no sprints. Fun with pucks and we are looking for the fasted slap shot! This will be our last Monday night for the Month, given you guys a break to get the shopping in and enjoy the season! After Sundays game we will shut down until the tourney!

I have the new schedule as well as get the web updated. Its on Bladenet for those playing at home, not many 9pm Sunday events which is nice!!

Christmas in the kitchen is this Saturday night yea!! Lets go out and play a great game and then hit the kitchen to celebrate!! We can have a pop or 2, get some pizza into the kids and watch the vid, we will have a small presentation and bring each player up to the receiving line of coaches and then we can farm you off to your other events with a smile!!!

Subject: Quick Favor Please!

Hey Gang, can I have a quick favor please?

Been a while since we have had a game and I would like to spend a bit more time preparing the kids for Saturday.

I think its about time we showed everyone what we can do. Saturday to us is the final game of our Christmas Tournament, it’s the 3rd game of the Gatorade Cup, it’s the March Break final, the Provincials and Minor Hockey day all rolled into 1. This day is the Stanley Cup Final for these guys, nothing else matters, for this hour we will not be thinking about Xbox, Play Station, Game Cube, football, school, homework or that pretty girl with the red dress….hockey will be in our heart and sole!

This day we get to play hockey!! We have put in the effort and we have worked hard and we have sweat! Other teams rested up we chose not to, we have been on the ice 3 times (4 hours of ice) since the last BLOMHA event and we are ready to play!

We need support folks, get everyone together at Nelson on our half and lets generate some excitement. Show me that kid inside that comes out to play every now and then, show your son that you support his team like you support the Leafs the Habs or the Jays! (notice I didn’t mention the Sens)!

This day we are here to play, we plan on putting it all together . the work ethic, the hockey smarts, the team work and the attitude. We have all of these factors and I have seen them all at different times, this day we want them all baby. For 1 hour on Saturday we are gonna give it everything we have every second of every shift, we are going to reach inside and play like we didn’t think we could, that extra inch, that extra push or shot or rebound and we are gonna like it and want it more often, its time to jump ahead and show the other guys what we are made of!! I am just getting started. Please get the message to the kids over the Fruit loops, homework. or dog walks!

Please have the dude at the rink at least 30 minutes before the game, or even 45. I plan on breaking each aspect of our game and addressing and spending the time in the room that I normally do in a playoff, for this day for this hour at Nelson, for us.. it is the last game of the year and the most important game this TEAM has in front of them! We have some work to do!

Getting kind of emotional on this one guys as we have worked so hard and these dudes deserve a reward!

Now go out and give someone a hug because it the Christmas season….well I likely lost you on that one but you get the message!!

Keep smiling because there’s lots of hockey left to play baby!!

Go MiB Go!!

See YA

Good Morning Sportsfans and Welcome to this Weeks edition of the Hockey News v20.

What a great weekend folks! The Gatorade Cup Game 2 is in the books and what a great tourney it was, be proud as its an honor to play in this event! These guys worked so hard but didn’t realize it, we saw kids score goals that don’t normally drop them in and we saw some nice teamwork and playmaking! There was disappointment in one room and Gatorade and celebrations in the other, very close games I would say and an amazing effort by all. As team Tommy Lee Jones won both games it is complete and closed off! The kids did ask that we have another so I may create fresh teams and do one more!

Yesterdays practice was great as well, I looked up at the clock and huh it was over, man time files when you are having fun. The beauty of working with these great coaches is that there is always something great going on, I look over and see Cooter working with one of his D, or I see Macguyver debugging something with one of his forwards or Shooter sharing a tip on shooting with one of the kids. Our kids are getting better folks, the intensity the drive, the hockey smarts and the work ethic, we are starting to get it and I just love this team, as a parent man this is the best program in town, as a coach the attitudes out there are so refreshing and as a friend this is just so darn fun!

Our goal is to get better and to have fun, I know I sure look forward to games and practices and there are always smiles and laughter out there when we are working, There isn’t a team out there that is working or having as much fun as us, trust me! I cant wait for our next game! We are going to be fired up and ready to explode!

To be confirmed but park it up there with the fruit loops!

Please let me know if you can not attend, Been getting a great turnout for extra events but I want it all baby! Good Morning Sportsfans and Welcome to this weeds edition of the Hockey News v18!

Sorry for no News out yesterday folks, was great hearing that you missed it!

I hope you enjoyed the Saturday off folks and had a great weekend! I missed you guys on Saturday and wished that we had an event, this is what I do and I just cant get enuff, that said you deserved a break to get charged up for Saturday night and last night!!

I enjoyed the game, the kids are amazing, gotta hand it to them they certainly have learned how to stay cool and battle game after game. We were flying and kept up with those guys for some time. Remember last time we played them they scored 9 goals on us! I was really happy with the game and walked away from the rink with a smile, we hammered them with 25 shots on net!! Cant ask for much more than that, they hammered us with 27 and we seemed to struggle in a couple  areas that we don’t normally have problems, noted and will spent some on it last night. Loved the passing and the breakout worked quite well. Nice to see less penalties and a more disciplined approach! Again remember our mission statement and our goals, the kids are having fun regardless of the score. Our message in the dressing room after the game was to be proud of the way we played, the kids are amazing and we had some funning doing what we love to do, and that’s playing hockey!!

Thanks for the support folks, great group of kids and parents we have here, I am loving the emails from you guys, keep them coming, there is lots of hockey left to play and we are planning on working very hard and turning it up a notch! I watched the last quarter of the Grey Cup on the PVR when I got home Sunday and several of the player comments were in regards to being rewarded for hard work, great message and a great feeling when you get something out when you put so much in, Love that feeling and that’s one I hope these guys are starting to feel, we are working and are being rewarded! The football coaching blunder was a different story! ouch it happens at all levels of the game, at bit more expensive at the CFL level!! We are working harder than any other team in this league and we will continue to.

Last night was a great practice, we worked hard! We hid some of the work in the fun but I am thinking the dudes were tired when they got home! Sprints where in the mix, although we did pound the net Sunday night we were out-shot and that’s our deal! We worked on skating, edges, running, passing, shooting and puck control. We touched on defensive strategies, a power play as well as faceoffs and the crunch play, finished it off with the full ice breakout, showdown and superman, how can that not be fun! A great well balanced practice folks, your coaches are amazing, a really great program our kids are benefiting from, we keep this up and by the playoffs we will be tuned! The crunch play is a called play, watch for the coach calling the centre and grabbing his fist, the centre at the puck drop spins, the winger grabs the puck and feeds it to the defense in front of the net, the other winger crashes the net and we get a shot and a deflection and rebound, kind of fun to see, we scored quite a few last year with this play, I love it when a plan comes together!

Cheers handed your Club54 tickets, if you can participate cool, it’s a totally volunteer thing, if I can get all the parents to hang out together for a night in a different environment I would be a happy guy, if we can generate some more funds for the team we all win! We receive $8 form each $10 ticket sold, I have sold 4 already and will certainly try to sell 10 and then some more, a fun night out, after the show we can kick up our heels and do some dancing as well, bet they will spin some Abba! I have been noticing in the rink after and before games parents are hanging out together, other teams are scatted, very cool folks, Christmas in the kitchen should help there a bit as well, and then the tournament!!

We have the Gatorade Cup game 2 on Saturday 3:00 at the Wave, I am working on something for Sunday. Perhaps in Port Credit against the Storm, or at Copps, couple feelers out there, stay tuned.  If anyone has any ideas I      have big ears!

No Monday Session next week (Dec 7) but we are back on the 14th.

I will send a mid week update with the weekend plans and a status.

Will leave you with this to think about for a week,.

“You are gonna make mistakes you know…., ask yourself when all of this is done….. who would you rather be, the Beatles or the Rolling Stones!”

Have a great week folks. Will see ya next time because there’s lots of Hockey left to play baby!!

Subject: RE: Good Morning Sportsfans and Welcome to this weeks edition of the Hockey News v15

Hey Gang, quick question! We had a really great and fun practice last night and your coaches were chatting after and want your feedback.

This upcoming weekend:

  • We have a ½ ice practice Saturday afternoon (I am aware of 2 families that may not be there),
  • Sunday we have a game at 9
  • Monday we have a practice at 8:30

Option A) we do all as scheduled

Option B) we sell our ½ ice practice Saturday and take the day off, game Sunday and practice Monday (would add $70 to team fund), the coach we practice with is on board if we are.

Option C) we practice ½ ice Saturday, play Sunday and pull in another team and refs and have a game Monday night (would split ice and ref costs with the other team)

We must practice so any option that includes a practice I am great with! With having only 12 skaters when we are missing a couple kids its tuff to do some of the full ice exercises that we have planned, not your fault just as we have so few kids this year we adjust. I am very happy with our turnout and parent commitment.

Please let me know your thoughts folks, if I pull in another team should act on it right away.

Funny last night we didn’t do sprints as a reward for the shots on net Sunday, with 10 mins left we asked the kids to pick the last drill and “Superman” was the drill of choice, this of course full out sprints rewarded with the superman slide at the far blue-line, these guys make me smile, I am loving the Monday night practices and I think the kids are as well!!

Reminder hotel reservations are closing Nov 26.

Thanks gang, check out the web for fun stuff and other details. The Gatorade Cup video had a whack of hits yesterday, nice to see you are checking it out, let me know your thoughts!!

See ya..

Good Morning Sportsfans and Welcome to this weeks edition of the Hockey News v15

A nice weekend of hockey folks hope you enjoyed both games as we did. The Saturday game certainly was close and last nights game I thought was closer that the scoreboard showed. That was not their regular goalie and I think that helped them a bit. On Saturday I am sorry we didn’t get rewarded with a  win, I thought we deserved it, was nice coming up front in the first minute and then tying it up. That last goal was disheartening. In case you were wondering here is how it went down and the logic. We were shorthanded and they scored. The ref on the blue line saw it go in, the ref at the net did not. We saw it go in so I thought we caught a break (sometimes thy go both ways). When the play was whistled down the call was made and the goal counted. The clock should have been reset to the time when the goal went in or time would be added to the end of the game, as we were curfewed it made no difference anyway. I looked up the rule and the correct call was made.

In last nights game another interesting play. We were short handed and received another penalty, refs arm went up signaling we were getting the call for a delayed penalty, play is blown down when we posess the puck, they put the puck in the net prior to us getting the puck, interesting, if no one is in the box the delayed penalty is cancelled, but as we had a man in the box he comes out and the delayed penalty sticks for 2 minutes or less. If we had 2 men in the box the player with the least amount of time remaining comes out. Think of it as we are the bad guys and the worst situation for us is the one that the rule is in favor, again the right call was made by the ref (I hate when that happens)! I always look it up after and explain it to the kids so we learn from next time). In my history this is the first time I have seen either of these call, kind of cool I learned something this weekend!

We received a delay of game penalty on Adam freezing the puck, I teach and promote puck possession and stand behind Adams decision of holding onto the puck if he believes giving it up could promote a shot on net, Doug (our ref last nigh and the Referee in Chief) and I disagreed on this, it’s a judgment call and I made it clear that I thought Adam made the right play, as I said in the dressing room 99 out of 100 refs wouldn’t call a penalty on that play, I have seen it so many times yield a shot and even a goal, good choice Adam, stick to your guns brother!

On a positive note (yes there is always something positive) I am seeing the kids work so hard, it’s a long journey and we are getting better. Last night we out shot those guys by almost 2 to 1. (so no sprints tonight)! I thought our penalties were fair and matched to the other team, both games. I can see the kids getting frustrated and am working very hard at keeping the moral up as when we deliver I have hopes it will be huge, and its all about the timing!!

I did see the breakout working both games, thought we were not moving the puck as well as I would have liked and we struggled keeping possession and keeping it in their end. As I am seeing lots of penalties called on both sides this year I would like to adjust and take advantage. In Saturdays game we had a penalty in the first period and we killed it off with they even getting a shot on net! We will work on a balanced power play, as you know all players receive equal ice so we will teach a system for all. I also wish to continue working on our break out and will focus more on passing tonight.

Couple housekeeping items we are paid in full for the Christmas Tournament and I think we have 6 families registered at the hotel. This is the last week  to make your reservation (Nov 26 the rooms will be released). Please grab the room if you are planning on staying overnight.

http://secure.cstt.com/TeamLogin/Team-Login_Input.php

We will do a team dinner then back to one of the rooms to hang out. I will publish the schedule as soon as its available, 2 games Sunday and 2 games Monday. I want a family team picture on Saturday after the first game as well please, right in front of the rink on the steps.

We have the ice tonight and again next Monday, The following Monday is not available and I will grab some sessions after that. Need to figure exams in there as well. Let me know your thoughts on the Monday sessions, We will continue to run the as long as we have the interest. We are definitely getting better and the results are long term.

We certainly looked great with the jerseys, thanks Shooter for getting that done, folks we paid $130 (plus taxes) which is a great deal, last year I paid more and we didn’t get the numbers on the sleeves! We are stylin baby! Wanted the MiB logo but the league said no.

I will be booking the theory session shortly, it’s a 1 hour blackboard session for the kids hosted by the coaches at the BLOMHA office. We will have pizza at the end of the session for the dudes. Stay tuned on the date, the girls at the office and I are in negotiations!

Good Morning Sportsfans and Welcome to this Weeks edition of the MiB Hockey News v14.

What an amazing weekend, you should be proud I sure am. 2 great games and 2 great battles. Coming from behind to tie it up in the dying seconds and then last night shutting down the third place team! A pal of mine came out to Saturdays game and called me after the game, he said Coach K your team has heart, he said we reaked of if and looked like we really wanted to win that game. Told him that we were collectively a very strong team and when we play together there isn’t a team we cant beat. We did not dump players in the trade and stack ourselves, we decided to hire within baby and promoted our guys internally! A good business model! Our guys in the dressing room are having a gas as well and that flows onto the ice, I hung outside the room and just listened on Saturday before the game, its so funny the conversations are changing as these guys are growing up, they are pushing their boundaries and working stuff out as a team, cool to see it unfold as the season progresses, what you see on the ice is a byproduct of everything these guys absorb, on the ice, in the dressing room, after the game, on the drive home and at home over the fruitloops.

There is a bunch of power that we are truing to tap and we are starting so see the results, still so much ahead. If this is a long drive to WallyWorld the Winnebago is gassed up and we have just grabbed some great deals at the duty free!! Long way to go, we know where we want to go but the tank isn’t quite filled enuff to get us there, a couple planned stops along the way!! Please get on board and enjoy the ride, the chats with you folks after last night where very refreshing, so many positive thoughts and a bunch of big kids having some fun!! Coach Kim commented that she saw several parents wooping it up in the stands, that’s huge we hear ya and it gets our engines going! Thanks!

A few housekeeping items.

Cheers has been collecting for the tourney so thanks for that, I think everyone has paid but have not done the math, I have just paid the balance, Not due for a bit but I like to get all this stuff locked up and out of the way, Coach Kim and I have registered at the hotel, I see that a few families are registered for the first night, I am thinking a big bash at Cooter and Teaches digs as they scooped the honeymoon suite! There is a casino attached to the rink as well so I am thinking the ladies are gonna be lost in action for a while!!

Pictures were a huge hit, thanks so much for sporting those cool dude shades, the photographer was having some fun with us, I told him why be normal right? We have fun with everything we do, as the sponsor I told him I was cool with it!!

We have a full icer tonight 8:30 – 10 at Nelson, Next Monday as well, will see how it goes but would like to grab this slot until the end of January. I have Hollywood (one of my goalies from last year) joining us for the fun. I cut a deal with the kids before Sundays game, told them as I loved the Pepper Baby and shots on net, if we took more shots that they on us there would be no sprints tonight and we would in their place do 15 mins of fun with pucks, (I just exhaust the puck bag and let the dudes mess around working on their shot or shooting on the goalies, this was my favorite part of practice as a kid so paying it forward baby), the guys peppered 27 shots and we received 17. Saturdays game we took only 10 all game to put it in perspective, tells me they hate the prints hehe!! And again showed we can work when we want to!

We have selected our captains. please believe me it is sincere, (ask your kids) we coaches did not add any votes and are totally supportive of the kids decision. Looks kind of fishy as it the coaches kids that were picked! Our Captain this year is Smilin Jack, Jack has grown so much over the years as a hockey player and a personality in the dressing room. I looked Jack in the eye and offered him the spot as an agreement and an extension of our coaching and team goals, I am proud of the teams choice and proudly support it. Emmett Greg and Robert were chosen as the assistants, all ties with the same amount of second place votes. All great candidates and kids I have known and coached for several years. Again we coaches did not juggle or make any changes to the teams selections. Obviously I am proud of the choices and hope these guys will step it up and lead by example, trust me I take this seriously and will be watching, supporting and pushing!

Shooter grabbed the shirts again, we had tried to get them in but couldn’t make it happen, Shooter dropped them off and I picked them up Saturday morning, we tried, will be done for our weekend games but bring spares tonight!

We are cooking up a fun parent night, January 22 at Comedy at Club 54. Tickets are 10 bucks each and we take back $8 from each ticket, A fun night and helps the MiB. We are cooking up a special birthday surprise for one of our parents, (starting to sweat? I would be). Please let me know your thoughts, if we could all attend and perhaps sell another 5 or 6 tickets we could generate another $800+ for the team fund.

The Amherst weekend (Dec 5-6) has us in game 2 of the Gatorade Cup, I am, setting something up for the Sunday as we are free, looking at either Copps. St Mikes or something a tad different, park it up there folks. I have a pal on anther team that we partner with every year (Vida Laurie), we chatted a pictures and will cook something up with the 2 teams.

To close off, I am the proudest  and happiest guy in the world this morning as I sit on the 7:05 train into the big city, not because we won and tied a game, but because your guys played their hearts out and got rewarded and have a bit of a bounce of confidence, I am happy as long as we get better and have fun, kids talk and soak it in and its nice to give them a reward, and life has pointed out the reward is winning, so for that I am happy they won!! Very cool, see you tonight at Nelson at 8:30 – 10:00.

Good Morning Sportsfans and Welcome to this Weeks edition of the MiB Hockey News v13.

Well its in the books, game 1 of the Gatorade Cup and I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! Man these guys can work and score a few goals when they want to! Team Tommy Lee Jones took game 1 over Team Wil Smith by 1 goal, in all the years I have been doing this, I have never seen a 1 goal delta, outstanding work MiB! A fun event and a really great day!

Thanks Cheers for running the collections and keeping me organized, and MoB (parents of the MiB), what can I say we collectively generated $1460 in team fund, amazing effort folks thanks so much for the support, what this is telling me is that you folks are on board and wish to participate in the fun, we are just getting started baby!! As you know I am just doing my duty and trying to generate some excitement with this hockey club! Why be normal and I like to do stuff a bit differently! With some funding in place it allows us to execute our plan, the Gatorade Cup is large but there is so much more, we have the 2 Nelson full ice sessions coming up as well, and I will be throwing in the Hanger here and there so stay tuned! Hope you noticed the passing in the Gatorade Cup and the Pepper Baby (this of course referring to the number of shots on net) huge!!

Sundays practice was also pretty intense, I always say to the guys that man time files, I usually let the kids go a bit longer on the drills they are having fun with, they hate the skating of course but its huge and will always be there, sometimes hidden in the fun depending on how prompt they are getting on the ice, lets just say Sunday they were not so we did a few sprints!! Thanks for bringing the water for the dudes, they sure needed it. We introduced a new passing drill that took a while to sink in but once they got it and worked out the bugs they got some value out of it.

Couple big games this weekend, we are without Stelios but I am not aware of anyone else. We have pictures on Saturday and I am asking that all the dudes and coaches host the cool dude sunglasses, remember why be normal right?, as the sponsor I get a few little perks and wish for the dudes to play the part, I get a copy of this with a special thanks from BLOMHA for sponsoring and want it in my executive office (basement) with the dudes playing the part, I will bring extras for those that forget, perhaps if those bringing could do the same just to make sure we are covered, Cheers you are with us baby bring those Barbi Bentons!!

I collected some of the jerseys after Sundays practice but do not currently have an appointment to get them in, I am off Wednesday – Friday so can run around a bit. We did the votes in the dressing room for the captains and assistants, I am driving around and officering positions to the dudes and preparing offer letters. This is an agreement between me and the dude and an opportunity to work on leadership skills in a pretty demanding environment, I take it seriously. The dudes selected were by the team and they have chosen well. I will make the announcement at pictures who the team has selected and who will proudly represent your MiB for the remainder of the season.

I am huge on banners and noisemakers etc but ill not drive this, need to come from the other side of the ice, will leave it at that but I have hopes of carrying out my tradition beginning Saturday, watch for it!

In closing would like to say thanks again folks, nothing is more important to me than the success of this team in achieving our goals, to get better and have fun! This past weekend was a reinforcement that you guys are on board and believe in what we are doing for our kids! (I got a tear in my eye)!

I told the guys that we often may find ourselves outgunned, that’s life and we adjust, we need to work a bit harder and play a bit smarter. Everything is in place and we are ready to get it done!

Please continue to support the MiB, tell your friends, and Gramma in Wawa!

Please get on board because there’s lots of Hockey Left to play baby!

Hi Jack, right back at you with the thank you! This raffle idea was a way for us to ask for $100ish from each family as a team fund, and to throw some fun at it as well as get the kids to participate in generating the funds for their team. I am blown away with the effort that the good folks in our hockey family have put forward. The IPOD is our little perk and thank you from the MiB for your efforts! Its part of our mission statement, you put in the work and you get a reward! Thanks again pal! It went to a deserving dude! Wish I had more for the guys that were runner-ups!

The scotch was supposed to go to me so I don’t want to talk about that!!

I will have more in Mondays Hockey News as well so stay tuned!

See Ya.

Good Morning Sportsfans and Welcome to another edition of the Hockey News v11, Its Friday “Ya baby” extra edition!!

I am so excited about the first game of our Gatorade Cup Tournament! As I mentioned this is the funnest event we will do and hidden in the fun will be lots of little hockey lessons we will take away and apply in our remaining games, the expression Pepper Baby will soon make sense to you folks! You thought the reffing this year was bad, wait till you see what we have lined up for you tomorrow, what I heard last year was even though we know the guy him the ref still sucks!

I had coffee with my great pal Anthony Barager yesterday and received the IPOD, its an IPOD touch and its pretty sweet! Last I heard the top sales were around the $175. mark so final stretch time, call Gramma in Wawa and Uncle Buck in Hagersville and get then on board and in on the fun! One of our dudes will be leaving the pond with this baby! Thanks again AB!

Thought we would run the afternoon as follows, Cheers will collect all the tickets and funds at the Pond prior to the game, she will document the funds in and from who (but wont leak any info on who is wining the race)! After Gatorade Cup Game 1 we will have the draw. I have my pal Wall-E (Ryan Hubner) helping us out in the other net so thought he could do the actual ticket pics for the prizes .Ryan was our goalie last year and will be helping us out in our full ice events, please welcome Wall-E Paul and Luisa as one of the MiB family! We have several prizes and the final last draw will be for the leaf tickets! Good Luck all!! I may have a few things to say after the draw as well but wont keep you for too long! I will present the total funds raised as well! Great work all, our team can only benefit from your hard work and this fun raiser!

We are also doing a parent participation draw, my good pal Cooter has donated 2 of his amazing tasty products (Glenlivet Single Malt Whisky) these are my personal favorites from the Wiserhood Collection, of course I am a member!, maybe the winner should crack this baby open after the draw!! Well maybe not as it’s a kids/team function but in London perhaps hehe!!

Another special thanks to Macguyver for donating those Leaf tickets, showing your true colors brother, certainly an unselfish contribution!! Thanks to my pal Davie Macfarlane for the 100 bucks in Pioneer gas coupons, I filed up with Pioneer gas about a month ago and am still at half a tank, Dave’s guys put some extra science in their gas and I don’t understand it, my exhaust smells like strawberries as well, kind of weird. Also another thanks and plug for “Survivor Man” Paul Hubner of Baffin Boots, Paul was telling me they have a new line of Ice Grabber boots and has asked me to test them out, go out and pick up a pair and let us know what you think, I think they are quite stylish and coach Kim says they make me look younger!

In closing; come on out to play folks, Saturday and Gatorade Cup game 1 is around the corner, we need your support, get on board and add to the fun, Tomorrow I am 14 for an hour and will be having as much fun as the kids, attitude is contagious and flows into these kids and onto the ice! Remember if you are a little kid just busting to get out, this is the team for you!

Thanks all and see you tomorrow at the Pond, We will do a light skate and the puck drops around 5:30! (We will need a parent on the clock please, best seat in the house).

Have a great Friday and start directing your thoughts towards tomorrow because there’s lots of hockey left to play baby!!

See YA.

Subject: Good Morning Sportsfans and Welcome to this weeks edition of the MiB Hockey News V10 ( a long one but please read)!

Good Morning Sportsfans and Welcome to this weeks edition of the MiB Hockey News V10. What a scary weekend, wow another Halloween in the books and not as many kids as I am used to seeing, where are all the little dudes! My area is growing up around me I guess, I certainly am not!!

I couldn’t be prouder of this group of kids, we played with so much heart both games this weekend! The Saturday game against the leafs was amazing! The Leafs received 2 A players in the trades and the players they gave away played as well so they had 17 kids on the bench, our dudes played with 11 skaters and put up such a great fight, I guess no one is worried about their dudes getting enough ice time! Re the trades as you know I never give up a player unless forced but asked for a pair of lungs due to our numbers and did the brass deliver! We welcomed our new pal Wild Billy Lydon to the MiB and he delivered a rushing style defense with wheels and endurance that can only help us, we love this style of play, works well with our plan! Please welcome Billy, Martin and Teresa to our MiB family, great dude and a wonderful family I have known for years! Gotta be tuff for Billy to join a team in progress, he did it with so much style last night and is one of the dudes!

Last nights game was feisty, we played the first place team and I saw what we could do when we wanted to, we were up for this one, a bounce either way and we could have taken it, I will park that up there, trust me I am starting to learn what this team can do. We played most of the game short handed ( I think the kids just wanted a rest haha) and often we played 2 men short, I said to the kids we play like that against another team and we can expect to come away with a win! Carlo big kudos to the kid in the pipes, Adam is playing with so much confidence and kept us in this one!!

I am loving the development and style. Couple things to work on and we have a couple events coming up to do so, more on that in a bit. Re the penalties was so great to come out to the MoB of parents last night who quite clearly let me know how they felt, wow, passion is amazing and I am so happy you care, I always say the aggression in us is what drives us to penalties or greatness, my job is to direct it into something positive, the kids wanted that win so they pushed themselves, I am cool with that, lots of folks thought we didn’t deserve all those penalties, that’s cool I will take note and monitor, we have a bit of a history this year so lets earn our stripes and stay out of the box, I am not launching a complaint as a few advised, been doing this so long if I did every time something came up I would pickup an undesirable reputation, when I do speak out folks will listen!

I will say Saturday no penalties and Sunday a couple hundred, sure makes me think, I will not scream at a ref but I will adjust to use a situation and to try to take advantage of it, don’t think we did a great job adjusting last night but fair or unfair the ref is the gatekeeper so we need to play by the rules and maximize the fun factor! Thanks for your thoughts and comments, I know you are digging this action as I am, I loved the hockey this weekend! (And I do think we deserved some of those penalties last night as did the other team!).

A quick reminder about the water bottles a couple dudes arrived without for the game yesterday, I will have the bottle carrier but will not be supplying, if we need to fill at the game no worries but please give them a wash prior to each session. See my last note on the web in the hockey news section. I copied the league when I sent that out, about an hour later we all received a message saying it was mandatory! One step ahead baby!

Lots of folks were asking on when to bring in the raffle tickets and money, awesome it’s the final run and we have lots of interest and generating lots of activity, I have heard that the Goddards are around the $150 mark, winder what it will take to have the dude walk away with the Apple IPOD? I will receive this week and will let you know the model memory etc. I have hopes each family will generate around 100 bucks as we have lots of stuff planned!

This Saturday for me is the highlight of the season! It’s the Gatorade Cup game 1, Saturday night 5:30 at the Pond. Check the web for the history and the story, I will say get use to the reffing style we have seen lately as I know the ref and he aint takin any crap ha ha!! We will have the raffle right after so please bring the tickets and the finds. Make sure the MiB athlete is clearly written on the ticket, lots at stake!

November is a great development month as we have the Gatorade cup, a practice Sunday and then 2 extra ice session Monday Nov 16 and Monday Nov 23rd,both Nelson 8:30 – 10. Picked up the ice for $140 each, great deal! We also have Gatorade Cup game 2 coming up (Dec 5 at 3:00).

Pictures this year will be Nov 14 1:30 at Central. Please full gear and sunglasses are a must! We have a game at 4 this day so can just head over to the rink after.

I will be setting up the hanger sessions shortly as well so stay tuned. Christmas in the Kitchen is December 19 and I need the entire crew please to share in the fun!

Remember I told you we would get worse before we get better, I am cool with this and I am extremely happy with the attitudes on the bench and the way these guys are playing, be proud folks! I walked out of that rink feeling so proud of the way we played and what we accomplished this weekend, that’s what I am about, sure it would have been nice to win those 2 games, I really think we could have and we will if we stick with the plan, enforce over the fruit loops folks!

We will have fun work hard and get better, the rest is the result!!

Loving it, keep smiling because there’s lots of hockey left to play baby!!

See YA Saturday, have a great week!

Subject: MiB water bottles and the H1N1 Virus

Hey Gang, lots of press on the H1N1 and I am in need of adjusting my methods as a precaution. Your trainer Macguyver and I have discussed and agree on this approach..

All players are to supply their own water bottles going forward. Please have a name and number clearly on the bottle. In past years I had purchased team bottles and after each game I rinsed and cleaned, then filled prior to the next game.

The news this past week is an awakening and I am thinking parents will want to control this process and I totally understand (I can get you those cool MiB stickers with the number on them)

I will bring a bottle for Robert and me and I will bring my bottle carrier to get all the bottles to the bench and the dressing room. Each dude needs a bottle on the bench for practice and games.

I had hoped to assist as often the dudes forget and need to remain hydrated. I think the greater of the 2 evils is the spread of this virus so lets work together to avoid any unnecessary risks.

I will monitory who is without and contact you with a friendly reminder, (action item for Macguyver), as well obviously bottles are not to be shared by anyone.

Sorry gang but I do think the ownership should be on the parents and I certainly do not wish to participate in anything that could take the fun away!

Thanks and please share any thoughts or concerns.

More info from Hockey Canada here: http://www.blomha.on.ca/2007/docs/I10-03_-_H1N1_Virus_-_Recommended_Steps_for_all_Assocations_and_Teams.pdf

Lots of Hockey left to Play baby, let’s stay healthy to enjoy it!

Subject: Good Afternoon Sportsfans and Welcome to this weeks edition of the hockey news v8

Great weekend folks, hope you enjoyed the hockey as much as I! Loved the practice Saturday night, I told the kids in the room that we were starting to work together and the attitude was up, maybe because it was a Saturday and there was a Leaf game…ya right! Loved the practice. We came up with a perk, if everyone was on the ice ready to go at the beginning no sprints, and the kids hate the sprints but we coaches love them, the kids won this one, they worked together and got everyone out in time. (We still skated hard but hid it with some fun stuff).

I could see evidence of the dudes working stuff out last night which was great to see, the message before the game is that we are not like every other team and we do stuff differently, we are not the Penguins like all other black teams, we are the Men in Black, I like the attitude of this crew, fun bunch of kids. The message after the game in the room was to not be discouraged, was actually a pretty close game. A smart football coach once said what’s the difference between winning and losing, the answer of course is the score (name the movie for bonus points!), Of course we like to and try to win but I am looking for other stuff as well. We work on stuff and we improve. Last night we peppered the net with over 25 shots, not bad! Numbers I am happy with, unfortunately need to support our pal Adam a bit better for next time, thought we struggled a bit getting it out of our end early in the game.

Its that time of year and the league looks at the teams and tries to balance them out. They have asked me how we are doing. In my entire history I have never sent a player to receive a stronger player and I don’t plan on starting it now, I work with what we have, I like to get to know each family and we have some fun, only exception is of course if you are not happy with this team I can cut a deal, but I wont be driving it. I have asked for another pair of lungs as we are running pretty lean so will see. I love the fabric of this team and don’t wish to stir it up. That said whatever the league says goes so stay tuned, if you are not happy please tell me and I will see what I can do. (I would be surprised as I have been quite open on hearing from you folks and its been pretty quiet).

We have lost 2 of our A players so we are a bit out gunned out there sometime, I am ok with that as long as we can keep the moral up, and I will continue to work that angle. Jake and I have had several meetings and he has decided to take a bit of a break from hockey, I welcome his return should he decide to, in my books he is a great kid and is still member of the MiB, I support his return at a later date. I have asked Cheers to take on Super Daves duties!

I have paid the deposit for the London Tourney so we would like to start collecting $700/12 = 60 each. We should also get hotel booked, last year we stayed at a great place (Lamplighter) so would like to do the same this year (big bash at Cheers place)! More on that shortly. I will chat with Cheers and find a way to book the hotel collectively.

Re the fundraising, we are getting close to the raffle date so please let me know how you are doing, I know Gregg has sold over a hundred bucks worth and is way out front! Subject: Good Morning Sportsfans and Welcome to this weeks edition of the hockey news v7.

Hope you all enjoyed the weekend and got a good fill of hockey in! I so missed you guys Saturday night, I was in the middle I think course 6 of the menu at an Italian wedding when the MiB hit the ice, Super Dave was sending me play by play from the rink so Robert and I felt like we were there! Big kudos to your coaches who played this one brilliantly and pulled a last minute tie!! Great stuff guys, my message to the guys was that never giving up has its rewards. Last nights game was certainly a battle, I thought the guys once again showed heart as we seemed to be tested from the minute we got on the ice. These guys played most of the game shorthanded, and a good hunk we were 2 men short, the ref had to come over and have me write it down to map it out, kind of confusing, like to say amazing job on the clock for our timekeepers, we are gonna try and work on that as we don’t intend on keeping you that busy!!

No matter how the refs handle a game or how we feel we are being treated we must keep our cool, we are having a tuff time with that one, when we stick to our game and stay out of the box we can compete, its that simple, I think we need to work on moving the puck and we struggled a bit getting it out of our end, but stuff we can work on. The next few weeks will be tuff as we will be missing at least 2 for several games, dust is still settling on the outcome of last night but give refs something to work with and they will make sure their message is received. I will be sending a well documented report into the league this morning explaining my thoughts of what went down last night, facts clear and to the point, but suspect no change to what’s on the game sheet, which isn’t pretty! Kudos to Stelios (man of steel), Superman wanted to hang on the bench with us after he was tossed for receiving 3 penalties, although I am still stumped on why they called him for that body check!

I did think the coaches looked great in those styling MiB hats!! Cooter we missed you, although Edmonton is nice this time of year get back here soon! Cooter is spreading the word of the Wiserhood out West and will be back for next weekends fun!

Re the raffle, let me know how that’s going, I can publish some totals, heard that Chris has sold 11 tickets, Robs at around that number and I think Greg has a bunch sold as well. The draw will be after our first Gatorade cup game so lets get it cooking baby, Let us know if you need tickets or are printing them up yourself. Remember my goal is for each athlete to bring in about $100.

Please continue to share your thoughts folks, I have some cool MiB stuff on the web, please continue to visit us at www.krhproductions,com and hit the MiB link at the bottom.

On another note I know we are all weekend warriors and doing whatever it take to get all of our kids to all events to maximize the fun but I would like to ask that we be at the rink 30 minutes prior to the game, 2 reasons we need to be laced up end eyes on the coaches 10 minutes before the game as well do a 3 to 4 man speech, each of us bringing a bunch of stuff we wish to get across, tuff to do when the guys are still strapping up. Also I have been seeing kids missing the warm ups as not on the ice in time. Its also important that these guys have some time in the room without the coaches to sort stuff out and figure out how to work together, and get to know each other!

Thanks gang, We do have heart and we are gonna keep working on our plan with your help. Please reinforce over the fruit loops!

Have a great week, share your thoughts and keep smiling because there’s lots of hockey left to play Baby!

Subject: Good Morning Sportsfans and Welcome to this weeks version of the MiB Hockey News v5.

Great weekend and a Happy Thanksgiving to you folks!

Funny how we are all over the spectrum this weekend, we played a couple of great games and I am really happy with these guys, we have heart and I am starting to see some great things. We called out a couple challenges and have acted on them, yes we still need to park them and pull them down as reminders and we will continue. Saturday the passing was there and we got the puck out of our end pretty well. I thought Sundays game showed we had heart, man we got beat up right out of the gate and we never gave up, right down to the last buzzer your guys fought with their heads up. We were pounded with over 30 shots and Adam did such a great job for us!

In the dressing room we chatted about some things we learned from this game and will take forward, the message was the ref is the gatekeeper and makes the rules, right or wrong we must learn to deal with all situations the right way, Until we have our captains set up, the coaches are the only ones to talk to the refs. At all levels in every sport the refs have the ability to take away the fun, simply asking a question or making comment as Chris and Robert learned will take a couple minutes away from your game. Right or wrong that’s Sundays lesson, we experienced it, we learned it, we talked about it and we move on. The young ref is a kid I coached a couple years ago and a good kid, in the heat of the battle anything said on the ice can be taken out of context or misunderstood. I will stand behind our guys and I will stand up to a ref, but it will be the right way, the kids will not learn that yelling or whining about a call gets the results, you will not see us playing any games with these guys, I will call it out with the intent of the ref learning for next time, the kids will learn, how we react is usually how they react, lets just say I have seen lots of coaches look pretty stupid yelling at a teenager in a house league hockey game, review our goals, doesn’t sound like fun to me!!

I also told the kids not to worry about that team, looks like they have a lot of really strong players, with only 1 practice under our (or any teams) belts we are pretty much all running solo at this point, we have some work to do and will get it done. I said this is the team I am happy to work with, let the league do what’s right and we will move on. Shooter commented he looks forward to playing them again, bang on with that message, we will bring it on next time we see them!

Super Dave has the raffle tickets ready to go, we should start getting this one rolling as the draw will be Saturday Nov 7 hopefully after the Gatorade Cup game. I have hopes that the kids will run with this pretty hard. Last time I ran this we generated $1600 in revenue and one of our guys walked away with an Ipod, sweet deal in time for Christmas! You can print them to get started, we will bring next weekend as well. fill in the details and rip in half, (Dave give the half away that doesn’t have the personal info!) I just sold our first ticket!! Attached the form, print as many as you like!.

Christmas in the Kitchen is targeted for Dec 19, please let me know if this doesn’t work for you! We have a game at 3, run home and get cleaned up and head on over to coach Ks for a nite of Abba!

Who is in for the London tourney, we need to get the numbers in to see if we can put the team together, dates are Dec 27 - 28 (4 games), please let us know ASAP, cost will be 700 / number of players. Would be fun to stay over as a team the 27th. We need to get the money in as it will book fast. Please respond to this today.

This weekends game on Saturday I will miss as Kim’s sister is getting married, as our game is at 7 I am going to try and go for a long walk and swing by, as I will be coming from a wedding I will not sit behind the bench but will try to watch from the side, Rob is pretty bummed he is going to miss the fun as well! He wants to play but I am thinking I would be burying myself in the bad books pretty deep if we both snuck out! Will see how it goes! (maybe I will bring the entire guy half of the wedding party!

Good Afternoon Sportsfans. A (brief) mid week update  - MiB Hockey News version 4!

I have checked with the league and the rule is we can field a team with 7 skaters and a goalie so we are still a go for this Thanksgiving weekend!! Saturday we have 9 skaters and Sunday we have 8! Ya baby we are gonna have some fun and tire these kids out! We may have 9 Saturday but I am prepping for 8, one family may be back, if so is a bonus!!!

I have a coupe fun updates on our web site, please check out the cal when you get a moment. Updated with the games and a couple key dates.

http://www.krhproductions.com/2009%20MiB/Cal/MiB%20Season%20Calendar.htm perhaps set is as you background so you don’t miss any of the fun!

I asked the kids to make sure they bring a clean water bottle as we cant share and we need to make sure we are hydrated. I have a bottle carrier that holds the narrower bottles, can keep them together.

I have asked Super Dave to get the raffle and financial stuff going. Just had a pal donate 4 x $25. in gas gift certs so we can add that to the Leaf Tickets (Nov 14 vs Calgary), Ipod and Baffin Boots, any other suggestions (or donations) are welcome! (tell all your friends)!

Please get your surveys and medical forms into Macguyver ASAP (or Cooter as Mac is away this weekend).

That’s about it, cant wait for the weekends games, no place I would rather be that with the MiB!! Let me know your thoughts!

See YA.

Good Morning Sportsfans and Welcome to this weeks edition of the MiB Hockey News v3.0

What a bunch of fun this weekend, our first on ice gathering and our first game. I came out of that rink last night with a full clipboard of notes, we have Super Dave in the stands gathering info for us as well. I often chat during the game with the guys about stuff that has gone down and often I miss so much. Shooter made a comment to me mid game and nailed it, we were all over these guys but we just couldn’t put the puck in the net. We did kind of run out of gas and our style changed in the 3rd period as the flow of the game changed a bit. I said to the kids in the room after the game that this was our first outing and we will learn from it, none of us are upset we set the stage and I am aware of several things to work on and we certainly will. I wish to flush out our challenges and attack them hard!

I look for these guys to explore out there and push the boundaries, we must learn to find our style and play within, the ref or the other team wont take our fun a way. I thought the reffing was quite fair to be honest.

As expected the room was pretty quiet and tuff to work, I expect that after the early season games’ especially when the bounces don’t go our way, Will take me a bit to get to know the guys, and them to get to know me and our coaches. I told the guys I don’t care about the score as long as next time we adjust and fix a couple things, tuff to do without a practice but the message is getting across.

It’s a new game this year, with so few players the team that wins the 3rd period may certainly win the game, we need to find a way to take advantage of this. On that note I am aware off IcePack as well as Liam not here for the Thanksgiving weekend, leaves us with 10 skaters so please let us know if you are not going to be here, I track everything so get me all the dates you are aware of, usually I say hey we have 17 players so no worries, this year its kind of critical that I am aware prior to the game and I will explore options we have with the league and at least call out our concerns and raise the awareness that we need more players.

I have attached the minutes from the parent meeting , I didn’t want to include it with this email as I know folks find it a challenge to get through my emails but its there if you wish to review what was discussed.

Good Evening Sportsfans and Welcome to this weeks version of the MiB Hockey News! V2

Thanks for coming over to my digs for the parent meeting road hockey (without the road hockey)!

So far have to say I love the fabric of this crew! I will play my song and act out the plan, as mentioned if we are pushing to hard and its not working please advise and we will adjust, I have coached this age group with my other boys so know what to expect and how to deal with it, like we seek from the kids, we learn from our past and apply going forward.

Also wish to extend big kudos for the attendance as we had the full crew out, thanks for taking the time and missing the first bit of the Leaf game, great to see so many interested, I have hopes the kids are watching as well as there is lots to learn from the pros!

Re the actual meeting I hope I didn’t scare anyone away but I will put it all up front, no surprises and you will never not be aware of what going on!

Stuff Covered:

Introductions: We covered off your coaching infrastructure, I have hopes you will enjoy these guys (and gal), they have so much to offer and we are lucky to be having them coach our kids.

Player Books: The blurb on us is a good read, please go though it. You guys are my ears outside of the dressing room, the message need to hit you guys and flow into your kids over the fruitloops, in the car on the ride home etc. I work hard at selling it to you folks and then work on the kids. Please bring the survey and medical sheet. Also please double check numbers spelling and add anything missing, Cheers puts together a really great card with all the info, pocket size to get us out of our social jams!! We gotta get to know each other pretty quickly!

Finances: Super Dave is the driver, team fund, he will approach you, I suggest $100 per family but let him know if this will or will not work, totally understand if it cant happen. Team raffle, so far we have Leaf tickets, a pair of Baffin Boots as well as the Apple Ipod that was donated by Soroc. CIBC has sponsored me as with our Ambassador program and has kicked in $500, received the check this morning. Dave also mentioned he wants to drive a 50/50 program. I will spend the money folks, the more we have the more we can do. Tournaments will be a separate pay as you play thing.

Tournaments:

  1. Gatorade Cup at the Pond, we split the team and play 3 on 3 against each other, best 3 out of 3 games, winner of each game gets Gatorade, the other team gets water. Have been doing this for years and it’s the most fun I think we will have, the kids love it, the reffing is outstanding!
  2. Christmas London Dec 27-30. I have been in this tourney for 6 years running, well run and lots of fun playing teams from outside of our centre.
  3. BLOMHA or Fort Erie March Break. Couple strategic choices depending on how we are doing, the BLOMHA tourney is a tuff one as its major and usually the better teams from the area, Fort Erie is mixed so a good run leading into Minor Hockey day, but an away tourney and the Provincials are in April.
  4.

Please advise if any of these tournaments do not work for your schedules, with only 12 skaters if we are below 10 we do not go and I need to get the funds in right away to secure Christmas.

Web: Our team website is located at www.krhproductions.com. I will publish all docs and info, as well as picks grabbed throughout the season, there will not be any names pointing to pics or addresses phone numbers etc. Please call out if this is a concern, I will provide no info for any bad guys! I could googe info on you guys that would likely shock you from other sources!

Christmas in the Kitchen: Kim and I open the door and invite our new friends to a nice get together to get to know you a bit better, in the past years the kids kind of roamed, and the parents hung out in the kitchen, there will be plenty of Abba but no dancing! Coach Kim’s famous ice cream cake may make an appearance. We may head down to the home theatre to view some MiB action on the big screen, usually a great night and venue to share in some Christmas cheer! (cant believe I am talking about Christmas already)! I suggest we go December 12, not too close and wont get in the way of family, pencil it in, lots of time to plan!

Extra Ice: I have partnered with a pal from work and secured the Wave Sundays at 2:00. Cost is $250 per hour and I need to book our dates, will cross ref the schedule pick some options, we can partner with Shooters team to spread the money around a bit. I am always chatting with my BLOMHA ladies and on their hit list as well, BLOMHA ice is $140 so kind of desirable. I can grab Copps any time at $250 per hour as well, looking to do a home at home series with a Mississauga Bantam team, also like to visit the Hershey Centre, catch a Marlies game and grab an our of ice after. The Hanger in Waterdown as well as Shooters pal are parked as options.

Clock: Super Dave will be putting a schedule together, I would like this in place prior to our first league game so please if you wish to help let Super Dave know, I think he wants to hang there as well! Next to my bench it’s the best seat in the house!

Communication: I am a fan of open dialogue, share everything, I have learned to take all in and make the best decisions for the team, love your feedback and I can work stuff into the play. Talk to any of ice, we are all close and pals and here because we believe in the same things and have the same goals for our kids. We don’t have 1 kid on this team we have 14, Like I said if you are happy tell all your friends, if you are not, tell me or any one of you infrastructure and we will nail any issues before they brew into something that could take away the fun.

Miracle Night: We didn’t mention it but we also do a Miracle night in late March early April, in line with the playoffs, more on that later, will just say it’s a family movie nights for all in your own homes.

Hockey Canada: I touched on the Hockey Canada ruling and the 1 year suspension for anyone participating in a non sanctioned league after September 30. Jack T asked what the thought was in Hockey Canada suspension: I have a message in with the league seeking clarity and the official answer  but my understanding is that its driving insurance costs up and there are no disciplines in place such as the program that Hockey Canada and its affiliated leagues are presenting. Personally I am cool with the Wave but suggest a choice is made, one or the other as it could hurt us if someone is caught, also I will have us so busy having fun with the MiB there really is no need to go elsewhere! I don’t think anyone from this team is doing both.

.

Goals: You will hear this lots. To have Fun, work hard and get better!

That’s it! end of the day this is one year of your sons hockey experience, we wish for it to be a fun and memorable experience. When I asked the kids who their coach was last year at least half didn’t remember, Next year they will certainly have an answer for that question!

Thanks folks, share your thoughts, and keep smilin because there’s lots of Hockey left to play!

Coach k.

See you on Thursday!!

Coach k

Lots of Hockey Left to play baby!

Good Evening Sportsfans and Welcome to this weeks (and the first) version of the MiB Hockey News! V1.0

It was great chatting with you folks and your kids this past week. This is one part of the season I most enjoy, the first impressions and introductions. I hope I didn’t scare you away!, I literally need three nights to get through the list as each call is usually quite lengthy by the time I have covered all on my agenda! And I just touched on the stuff we have planned! We will get into that a bit later,

I will tell you with us there is always a plan and no surprises. We are huge on communication, you will receive at least 1 version of the hockey news per week, we will publish everything that’s been handed out and all info etc will be on the web. I am a fan of technology so like to use the cool resources. Mostly the web and email but I am on facebook and will monitor anything the kids do regarding the team.

Re the web its located at www.krhproductions.com. I run a small movie production company, a hobby business I like to call my Brock University fund! I will publish pics of the dudes throughout the year please let me know if this is a concern. I will also publish schedules drink lists and a copy of the Hockey News complete with all issues for your reference, Fun place for Gramma in Wawa to check out the progress of her favorite hockey team. On the page click the lots of hockey left to play link!

As I am the sponsor I was allowed to pick the color. So of course what’s cooler that being black, I am huge on attitude and intensity and thought the Men in Black would be a good handle, sure we could be the Penguins like every other black team but I like to do things a bit differently so hope you are cool with that, the kids I have mentioned it to seemed to think it was kind of cool.

I will be hosting our first get together this Thursday at my digs. 2182 Ferencich Court at 7:00. Agenda will be a brief introduction, goals, financial stuff, extra stuff planned etc. Cheers will hit you with a name tag, dudes will grab the Jerseys socks and their playbooks (will include several goodies including the schedule) and a bit of road hockey, although its getting dark early these days!

Here is a brief intro to your infrastructure: (I like to travel in numbers and like to keep good people around me at all times).

Keith Heise, head coach, been doing this for about 12 years, have 3 boys but only 1 still playing. Jordan is currently in his second year studying business (and other things), at Brock, my number 2 Jake at MM grade 12 and Robert at Nelson. I have been coaching all three of my boys in hockey and baseball since they could stand.

Mark (Cooter) Thorne, a level 1 coach who I worked with last 3 years and was fortunate to bring onboard again this year. Mark, a rep player in his younger years is a very strong hockey guy focusing on the fundamentals and mechanics; Cooter brings technical strength, a very disciplined approach and will be primarily focusing on our defensive crew.

Todd (Macguyver) Goddard will be providing the first aid, Mark also a rep player in days gone by was also with us for several years although we promoted him to trainer and assistant coach from parent as we recognized some positivity that could benefit the team. MacGyver’s role will be to make sure that all gear is in acceptable condition, the environment is safe, and that an action plan is in place should we run into injuries. Macguyver is the only coach permitted on ice during a game should a ref give us the signal. Todd will be focusing primarily on the forwards. Cooter is also a trainer so we are covered on both side of the bench, I get to hang out in between these 2 guys! First order of business will be equipment checks so if you can have a peak at the helmets for starters, cracks, CSA stickets and the fit will be reviewed and submitted to BLOMHA within the first few weeks.

Eric (Shooter) Law also together for several years, Shooter well known by most for great work in the past as head coach with this age group. I called him out of retirement last year to assist with this crew, Shooter also a head coach of a Peewee team is a great pal with great hockey smarts. Shooter will be working with us on the bench and the ice!!

Dave (Super Dave) Quinn is also returning to assist this year. Super Dave and I go way back as I was his assistant coach and then we swapped roles a few years back. Dave will be our manager and an advisor in the stands, trying to get a headset for him do talk to the bench. Super Dave will handle all of our money, I never carry, All funds will go through Dave, any time I need money for ice or other activities Dave will drive this. All transactions will be documented on the web and all funds will be directed towards activities or goods for the kids. Last year we burned though $4000, we will discuss at the parent meeting the best approach this year based around what you guys want out o this season.

Sue Goddard aka Cheers is our parent rep and social convener, what can I say Cheers will be in charge of getting the fans in the stands on their feet and leading our cheering section again this year, you had to have seen those signs, banners scarves and clappers, we were the loud a crazy group and trust me our parent crew had as much fun as the kids! This is where Cheers shines, get on board baby!

Put good folks around you and great stuff happens.  I have selected your infrastructure based on that principle, these guys (and gal) are protected because I like the way they do stuff, you will see a pattern amongst us, we are all pals and have been doing this for several years together, these guys (and gal) get it, our mission statement starts at the top and will flow into you guys and into your kids, and that statement is:

“We will work hard, have fun and get better”,

pretty simple and that’s about all I will guarantee this season, the rest is a byproduct and if that’s our goal how can we not succeed, the word win did not make it in! Are we playing to win, absolutely, because that’s what you do, always try your best and play to win, but that’s not my goal! This way we don’t double shift or sacrifice a dudes confidence by pulling him off etc. It certainly is easier to manage a dressing room when you win, but we all must learn how to lose as well.

We will likely get worse before we get better. With our plan we will be breaking up the obvious and distributing amongst the team, no one will be the star, we will play a balanced system designed to not be an easy target for any opposition to break. More on this later but we do have a plan and you will see in practice little things unfolding that will be kind of fun to watch, As we go though the season we will introduce different plays and strategies. Off the top we are huge on getting the puck out and executing the breakout, this is pretty easy to get under control wit a bit of work, once in place we will introduce different variations and plays, kind of fun, cant wait to get started! We will package it all up in a way that a 14 year old can understand and apply, no good learning if you cant take it to a live situation to test it out. Someone asked me how I can get the kids out to practice? my answer is if we stick to our plan building the foundation the kids will want to be at practice cuz its so darn fun, lets review the mission statement work hard have fun and get better! FUN is right in the middle and the last word is the byproduct of the 2!

We will touch on several other topics at the meeting and I will send an update after.

Lots to discuss and plan and like I said I cant wait to work with you guys and start playing some great hockey! We are in this together for 6 months, I chose to take control, push this thing and have some fun, please join in on the ride, your attitude towards this program will certainly flow into your son and this team, fun catches on, tell your friends!!

If you are a little kid inside just waiting to bust out,,if you enjoy seeing your son having fun and getting better, if you like to push the boundaries and let it out on the weekend then this is the team for you. We will work hard at getting your son to deliver and play like he never thought he could  We will be asking for a bit more and then asking for a bit more, its really amazing what these guys can accomplish when they want to! We add to the traditional BLOMHA program, we will throw way more at it over the next 6 months, I often call it a rep system in a house league environment.

I will close this off for now in saying I like to talk, we are the most approachable guys in the world, there is nothing more I like to talk about than your sons progress and experience on this team, if you love the program tell your friends, if not so happy tell me!. Go out and find someone that has been with us over the last 3 years (that isn’t currently playing rep) and ask them about the experience.

I find something that works and stick with it, may look pretty primitive at times but give us a chance to earn your sons respect…and yours!!

See you on Thursday!!
